The Location

«In the middle of the city of Naples, via Spaccanapoli opens up – a narrow, lively straight road over a kilometre long, cutting the vast urban sprawl in two. It is the heart of this Babel of history. Here lived and died Benedetto Croce.»

Stanislao Nievo

No trip to Naples is complete without a walk through the Decumani, the three main streets of the ancient Greek urban layout of Neapolis. The most famous is undoubtedly the Lower Decumanus, today known as Spaccanapoli, a strikingly straight path that splits the historic centre in two, dividing the north from the south of the city.

Walking it means diving into the most authentic Naples – vibrant, colourful, full of stories and inspiration.
Along the way, take time to discover artistic and architectural treasures from different eras: the Church of Gesù Nuovo, a UNESCO heritage site; the Santa Chiara complex with its stunning majolica cloister; San Domenico Maggiore, a unique mix of Gothic and Baroque; the famous Sansevero Chapel with the Veiled Christ; and via San Gregorio Armeno, the kingdom of artisan nativity scenes.
Today the street bears the name of one of its most distinguished residents: philosopher Benedetto Croce. And right at number 23, in the historic Palazzo Tufarelli, we welcome you to our private apartment Decumano XXIII.
